What an amazing week here in Garretson!
Devil’s Gulch was mentioned in a USA Today article as a destination to see while traveling. Then, the community found out that the band, ‘Clementine’ would be giving a concert during Jesse James Days later this month. Finally, a group of vehicles paraded through Main Street on a Poker Run. And oh, by the way, there was actually a day or possibly two where it did not rain!
Being a small community, there is always that perception that nothing much happens in small towns. That is far from the truth as is evident by just the three events that I mentioned earlier. In addition, there is also mentioned that big-time things don’t happen in small communities.
Devil’s Gulch being mentioned in the USA Today, a national newspaper that is read by as many as 2 million people depending on the issue gives credence to the popularity of Devil’s Gulch.
And the band, ‘Clementine.’ Granted there is a family connection that helped bring the band here. But. Jannel Rap, one of the vocalists, told me that when the band goes on their major 19-day, Squeaky Wheel Tour to help those who are missing like her sister, Gina Bos, she and her band mates will remember Garretson and Jesse James Days as the catalyst that gave the band its start.
Those driving in the 2007 Annual Charity Poker Run could have waved at Garretson as they drove by, but they didn’t. Drivers stopped to pick up their poker cards.
And the reason all this is happening is because of the dedicated work of all the people in this community who believe Garretson is the place to call home and also the place to show everyone else. The people are whom visitors remember.
